2017 perspective

every once in a while i think back to how i felt in 2017. things just
felt so modern and cool back then, but now i'm looking at even better
technologies and somehow it feels like a downgrade.

i feel like maybe i hadn't seen enough. e.g. i saw the internet at face
value, just an endless vortex of everything, and nowadays i just see it
as a ton of walled gardens begging you to come in and about a million
acres of woods in the back. a few years ago i went into the woods and
never have i thought about coming back.

listening to Cory Doctorow has been inspiring. maybe one day things can
be like they were in 2017; if we can top the awesome that we already
awesomed. hopefully it's something closer to being good, something that
represents our chaotic good nature. we're already on our way
